What: Historic Covered Bridges of Frederick County Photo Tour

Northern Frederick County is home to three historic covered bridges. All three bridges are listed on the National Park Service’s National Register of Historic Places. The Utica Mills, Loy’s Station, and Roddy Road covered bridges all cross streams in northern Frederick County, within twelve miles of one another. Besides their beauty, the bridges are also structurally interesting. This is a great time of year to photograph the bridges as the auburn leaves of Fall will make the scenes even more striking.

Four our excursion, let's meet at the Tourism Council of Frederick County, 19 E. Church St., Frederick. There is a garage right next door where we can park and car pool to the bridges.

If we meet at 12, we can spend some time taking pictures in historic downtown Frederick and then caravan/carpool out to the three bridges.

You can also get bridge information on its Web site, www.fredericktourism.org, or call [masked]. Open daily from 9 to 5. All three bridges are east of Route 15 and north of Frederick in the vicinity of Thurmont: Utica Bridge on Utica Road, just off Old Frederick Road; Loy's Station Bridge on Old Frederick Road, just south of Route 77; and Roddy Road Bridge at Roddy Road and Roddy Creek Road, just north of Thurmont. Please note: Use caution if you choose to walk onto the bridges. There are no lights or walkways inside them, and motorists may drive onto the bridge without seeing you. Always have another person look for vehicles, and be prepared to exit the bridge quickly.
