Washington National Cathedral (map)
Let's have a spectacular indoor shoot at the Washington National Cathedral. This Washington landmark is known for its beautiful architecture and striking stained glass. We'll find photo opportunities in the main sanctuary, in the tower, the Pilgrim Observation Gallery, outside on the grounds...and even exploring some of the history of the Cathedral.
Let's meet out front at 1 pm. I'll be the guy wearing a press pass-like badge that says Shutterbug Excursions. There is parking underneath the Cathedral for $4/hour. You can try street parking, but chances are usually pretty low that you'll find a space. On the Metro, take the Red Line to Tenleytown/AU station.
See you there!
I remember when the first stone was laid on September 29, 1907. It was a sunny day with the temperature hovering around 66 degrees.
Sounds great. I assume that we can't use tripods or flash in the building. Is that right?
I think that's a safe bet with tripods. Flashes might be okay.
Don't you think Washington DC will still be a traffic and tourist nightmare even a few days after the inauguration from people deciding to stay a few extra days? ?
I don't expect traffic will be much of an issue schools and businesses would have been resumed for three days...and most people tend to get out of town the next day.
Looks like WalkDCity meetup has 38 going to the Cathedral the same day and time - will be busy!
It was great meeting everyone, it was very difficult for me to take decent (if any) shots of the stained glass and other elements in the cathedral. It was very humbling seeing the work of others such as LeRoy and Kat that really captured the beauty and reminded me of how much I need to learn.
Here are my shots from the Cathedral:
