This will be our *first ever* TWO-DAY excursion!! You don't have to stay for all of it - pick and choose the pieces that fit your schedule. Here's the general plan:
* Saturday Noon: Meet at Bethesda Fountain in Central Park and we'll dine al fresco - Then we'll spend the afternoon hiking through some of the most photo-worthy parts of the Park, including a side trip walking past some of the mansions along 5th Avenue.
* Saturday Evening: Twilight and nighttime photography at Times Square (sunset will be 7:35 pm) - we should start no later than 7 pm and probably will continue until past 8 pm.
* Sunday Morning: Sunrise over the East River - we'll get out really early (sunrise will be 6:13 am) and meet at Brooklyn Bridge to capture dramatic sunrise lighting over lower Manhattan
* Sunday 8AM: Breakfast at world-famous Katz's Deli!
* Remainder of Sunday morning: explore the High Line, Manhattan's newest park, built on a section of the former elevated freight railroad along the lower west side of Manhattan.
the official Excursion will be over at noon or 1pm on Sunday.
Travel to and from this event will be up to you, as will lodging if you decide to stay overnight on Saturday. Start watching the RSVPs from other members, and you will likely be able to team up with at least one other person so that you don't have to travel alone.
Much more information to come!

Hi everyone! I've just posted some more detailed information in the "Files" section of our website about this meetup. It shows maps and photos of where and when we will meet for each session during the two days.
Go to the top of the web page and click on "More", then "Files", and then click on the latest file, which will be for this meetup. Or, just go to this web address:

Marilyn, if you want some company, Natasha and I are taking the 7 am Greyhound bus from DC on Saturday morning.
Steve, I booked a room at Hotel Riverside based on your suggestion.
Is anybody going up on the bus?
I should add about the Travel Inn Hotel - it's on 42nd street near the Hudson River - not as nice as Upper West Side, but it's really not bad at all. Also, it's only a few blocks from the Intrepid (aircraft carrier/museum) at 45th street on the Hudson.
Here's a hotel to take a look at: Travel Inn Hotel 515 W 42nd St - it's $99 a night and apparently has FREE PARKING!!
I wish I had noticed this one earlier ;-)

Is anyone staying overnight? I've booked a single at Hotel Riverside Studios, 342 West 71st Street.
This is a pretty bare-bones place, but very inexpensive for Manhattan ($75/night plus taxes) and it's in a very nice neighborhood.
One caution... there are no individual bathrooms in each room, but several shared bathrooms on each floor. For those used to hostels or "Europe-on-$20-a-Day," Hotel Riverside will probably be downright luxurious ;-) but just be advised.
