Let's go to the Chinese New Year Parade in Washington's Chinatown! It's the Year of the Tiger.
We'll meet outside Starbucks on the corner of 7th and H Streets Sunday, February 21st in Chinatown. The Gallery Place/Chinatown Metro is nearby (Green/Yellow and Red lines)
The parade begins at 2:00pm on H Street between 6th and 8th Streets. There are other Chinatown activities as well including live music and dance performances, traditional Chinese calligraphy, children’s crafts, face painting, tai chi and kung fu demonstrations, lion dancing, poetry readings, film screenings, art and photo exhibits, raffle prizes, New Year souvenirs, free giveaways, and much more. Special guest performances by: Wong People and students of Yu Ying Public Charter School.
During this celebration of the Asian culture, it is traditional to wear RED which is meant to ward off evil spirits. So feel free to come sporting your favorite red shirts, jackets, hats and scarves!
Family members and children are welcome!
Most Shutterbug knows that an excursion is not complete without finding good eats. Thus, for anyone wanting to stay around for dinner after the festivities - I understand that there are many wonderful ethnic restaurants in the area; last year a number of us enjoyed the sights, smells and great eats at the Full Kee Restaurant on H Street. Note on your response if you want to stay for dinner.

Mary thanks for organizing this event! It was my first and I enjoyed meeting everyone! I will be posting my pics tonight, hope you enjoy what appears to be very similar to the wrest of yours! :-). I look forward to our next adventure!
It was nice seeing everyone! Unfortunately my son and I got separated from the group before the parade started. Massive headache + miserable teen = early trip home. LOL! Hope you all had a great time! The photos are amazing!
Missed the dinner. But I had a wonderful time to take pictures.
You are right, Mary! It's crowded and there were lots of colorful people. With two camera bodies, I didn't have to change lenses. And I took quite a few of good photos.
I agree Mary...lots of colorful people, etc. I'll upload my pics soon. I took a few.
I had a great time! I was a little disappointed with the parade, but there were lots of colorful people, dragons, noisy fireworks. Next time I will post my cell phone number so we can perhaps communicate a little better. If we missed anyone for dinner, I apologize, but with the crowd it was hard to keep everyone together - and H Street was virtually impassable. Hope you had an enjoyable day in Chinatown!
If anybody wants to join my wife and I before the 1:30 start date at the Archives, this will be the Last weekend to conduct any photography in the Archives. The Archives concluded that people were not adhering to the 'no flash' policy, so they are taking a ZERO tolerance policy on photography. Needless to say, I am going in "photoguns a blazin" at this last opportunity...around 10:30ish....?
